Check a message

Not sure about a text, email or call? Paste it in and PonchoGuard looks for the tricks scammers use.

  1. On the home screen, tap Check a message.
  2. Paste the message into the box. You can also tap to tell what happened in your own words.
  3. Tap Check it.
  4. Read Your answer. Tap Read it to me to hear it out loud, or Why to see what PonchoGuard noticed.
  5. Still worried? Tap Ask my family.

What the answers mean

  • This looks like a scam. Do not pay, click or call back. Talk to your family first.
  • Be careful with this one. Some warning signs. Slow down and ask someone.
  • We did not find warning signs. This is not a promise. Scammers change their tricks. If anyone asks for money, codes or passwords, check with your family.

Check from another app

  • Android: in Messages or Mail, press and hold the text, tap Share, then Check with PonchoGuard.
  • iPhone: in Messages or Mail, tap Share, then PonchoGuard. You can share text, a link or a picture. A picture stays on the iPhone; only its words are checked.
  • No app: paste the message into the box on ponchoguard.com. It works in any web browser.

Your family sees the answer and the warning signs. The message itself is not sent to them.
